Are you feeling low, anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or just like something is missing? Are you ready to learn new skills, change your perspective, receive support, and live a life more in line with your values? I’d like to help.
I view therapy as an opportunity for clients not only to reduce distressing symptoms and overcome difficulties but also to gain a sense of mastery, understand themselves more fully, and build a life that is personally meaningful.
I use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach tailored specifically to each client’s needs, and often utilize techniques from acceptance-based CBT models such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I work using a strengths-based, empirically supported perspective and consider both science and warmth to be essential ingredients in successful treatment.
I received my BA from Stanford University and my PhD from UC Berkeley, and have provided care within the following settings:
college counseling center
community clinic
research laboratory studies of dementia patients and their families
VA hospital and clinic
private practice
I see adult individuals and have specific expertise in working with college-age/young adults as well as older adults.
I work collaboratively with clients to target the following issues and challenges:
Depression and milder mood complaints
Anxiety (including social anxiety, generalized anxiety, and panic disorders)
Life transitions (college entry or departure, retirement, divorce, grief, loss, etc.)
Chronic Pain
Alcohol Use Disorder (mild to moderate)
Tobacco Use Disorder
Caregiver issues and burnout, particularly dementia-related
